私はKaolu
――“Kaoru”じゃない。これは、後の名前だ。
日本人みたいな名前だけどアメリカ人、日本では5月生まれに相応しい名前らしい。
日本の人に聞いたけど「風薫る５月」、でも私は、ローマ字でKaolu。
簡単に自己紹介するね、私は24歳、コンピュータサイエンスの大学を卒業して、今は大学院３年目。見た目はアジア系だけど、パパによれば、それはママ似らしい。
なぜコンピュータサイエンスを専攻したかって？
それはもちろんスターウォーズが好きだから。できればジョージルーカスに直接授業を受けたかった。
子どもの頃、パパにジョージルーカス博物館に連れて行ってもらった時の感動を、今でも覚えている。
この間も、スターウォーズガレージセールに行って、1週間充電したのに電源が入らないC3POのレプリカロボットを買ってきたのよ。
床に置いておいたら、拾ってきた愛犬、ゴールデンリトリバー系雑種犬のローラがおもちゃにしているから、まずい！と思って納戸に入れて…、すっかり買ったことを忘れていた。
おっちょこちょいだって？
確かにそういうところもあるけど、コンピュータサイエンスの学生としては結構優秀なのよ、この間、AI人格設定プログラムコンテストで優勝したんだから！
ということで、その賞金のおかげで、明日からイスタンブール旅行に行くことになったわけ。C3POは、電源が入るように修理して欲しいからパパに預けて来たわ。
あっ、パパはロボットサイエンティスト、だから何とかしてくれると思う。
大変、ローラも預けなきゃ！
パパは、猫は大好きだけど、犬は躾をするのが面倒だ！と言うのよ…
だから、ローラは大学から同級生で仲良し、学科ではライバルでもあるAllenに預けよう。
